VMFS deposits files in a storage container called a datastore, a separate filesystem that runs on top of a volume. Datastores reside on a block-based device such as iSCSI. Virtual machine disks (VMDKs) are housed in the datastore. VMFS-6, released with vSphere 6.5, offers a new feature that is automatic space reclamation. I guess I'm using your same ISP right now because I just installed ESXi 6.7 U1 on a dedicated server and ran into the exact same issue. I fixed this easy way: selected VMware ESXi 6.5 U2 instead of 6.7 U1 as install image; after installation, the datastore on the install disk was already in place as datastore1; enabled maintenance mode

I used to collect datastores inventory using my old script VMware Datastores inventory. It is still very handy when I want to keep it as inventory. This inventory is also good when I want to troubleshoot, but over the period of time I found still I am missing something. Now I have added some more useful information about iSCSI paths.
Jul 28, 2017 · I have one VM sitting on the SSD pool and still get latency spikes. We're not seeing these spikes from the Tintri datastore (nor have we ever) and when pinging the QNAP data port from the ESXi host the response times are good and I never see these latency spikes show up so it looks to be something within the array itself. 17.05.18 - Remote ESXi recovery 2.0. Jul 03, 2016 · SSH access to your ESXi host. A datastore, preferably a remote NFS or iSCSI one, where backups can be stored. Installation. Download the ghettoVCB VIB and then using your tool of choice (e.g. the vSphere Client or FileZilla over SFTP), transfer the VIB to your ESXi host. In playing around with adding an existing iSCSI LUN to a new VMware ESXi 6.5 host in a lab environment, I ran into a peculiar issue adding the storage to However, in my VCSA Web UI, I didn't see the LUN available to add as a datastore. Also, I already had two ESXi 6.0 hosts connected and...

At this point iSCSI is working and connected. Now we'll create a partition to store data. In ESX, this is referred to as a "Datastore". 13. In the “Storage” section, go to “Datastores” and create a new datastore. Click “New datastore” and then “Create a new VMFS datastore”, and click Next. 14.
Step 3: Create a shared datastore. Go to Configuration > Storage > Add Storage > Select Disk/LUN radio button > Next > Select the target iSCSI disk > Next > Next (a partition will be created and used) > Enter a meaningful name for the datastore > Leave the “Maximum available space” radio button checked > Next > Next. I have an iSCSI export on FreeNAS 11.2-beta3 consisting of a 5TB zvol exported to multiple ESXI hosts who all share a single datastore on it to store/migrate their vms. Everything worked fine. I recently changed the underlying hardware of the machine while keeping the same disk controller and disks that host the zpool on which the zvol is (i.e ...

Oct 29, 2018 · As you can see, only my 2 Synology datastores and 1 VAO (non-beta) datastores are mounted, not the datastore from my beta server. For kicks, I entered the command to remove the non-existent datastore. esxcfg-nas -d VeeamBackup_vao-beta.tsmith.local. What do you know!
